Dedicated to Child-Centred Growth

About Me

Hi, I'm Christina, an Advanced Clinically Trained Child-Centred Play Therapist with more than 18 years of experience supporting children, young people, and families through counselling and therapeutic services.

As a mother of four, including children with neurodivergent experiences, I bring both professional expertise and lived understanding to my work. By combining evidence-based therapeutic approaches with real-world parenting experience, I offer compassionate, practical support tailored to each child's unique needs.

I am passionate about meeting children exactly where they are, rather than where society or even well-meaning adults think they should be. Every child deserves to be seen, understood, and valued for who they are.

At Maxx Ambitions, we believe in the transformative power of play. Through play therapy, children are given a safe and supportive space to explore their thoughts, process emotions, develop resilience, and gain confidence in navigating life's challenges. Using play as a child's natural language, we help them express experiences that can be difficult to put into words.

If you're looking for support for your child, we'd love to help. Contact us today to learn more about our approach and book an exploratory call to discover how play therapy can support your child's emotional wellbeing and growth.

Respect for the Child's Autonomy

The therapist respects the child's ability to solve their own problems and allows them to lead the therapy process at their own pace

Introducing Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT)

Child‑Centred Play Therapy unfolds at a gentle, steady pace. Unlike talk‑based therapies, CCPT relies on play as the child’s primary form of communication. Because children express their inner world symbolically rather than verbally, the therapeutic process naturally takes time — but the outcomes are often deeper, more meaningful, and longer‑lasting for young clients.

In CCPT, play is the therapy. Children explore emotions, experiences, and challenges through the play process, often in ways that sit outside their conscious awareness. For this reason, the therapist does not interrupt or direct the child’s play with questions or cognitive tasks. Doing so can disrupt the child’s emotional work. Instead, the therapist offers empathy, attunement, and unconditional positive regard, creating a safe, accepting environment where the child can express themselves freely.

As the relationship develops, children typically move through several predictable stages:

  • Warm‑Up Stage: Children settle into the space, build trust, and explore lighter themes as they become comfortable with the therapist and the playroom.

  • Aggressive Stage: Once safety and connection are established, deeper emotional themes often emerge. Children may express anger, frustration, sadness, or other strong feelings as they work through the issues underlying their behaviours at home or school. This stage can be intense and may last several sessions.

  • Regression Stage: Children may revisit earlier developmental needs related to nurturance, attachment, identity, and relationships. Play may include age‑regressed behaviours such as baby talk or crawling.

  • Mastery Stage: Over time, children integrate their therapeutic gains. They begin to show increased self‑control, more confident emotional expression, and a stronger sense of capability.

Throughout the process, the therapist remains calm, attuned, and accepting — even when emotions are big. This consistent, non‑directive posture communicates to the child that they are safe, understood, and capable of working through challenges at their own pace.

CCPT is not a quick fix, but it is a powerful, developmentally attuned approach that supports genuine, lasting change. Parents often find that the slower pace leads to deeper insight, stronger emotional regulation, and meaningful shifts in their child’s confidence and wellbeing.
